Respirator fit testing is undertaken to ensure that a respirator has a proper fit to the face, enabling an effective seal to protect from harmful contaminants in the air, including dust, particles, gases, and infectious agents.

A fit test should be performed by competent personnel before employees wear a respirator for the first time, when there are major facial changes, and at least annually thereafter. An inappropriate fit can reduce the protection provided and leave workers exposed to unsafe airborne contaminants.

KOH recommends quantitative fit testing, which provides more accurate and objective results compared to qualitative methods. It is also suitable for all half-face respirators and full-face respirators. Our Respirator Fit Testing is conducted using the PortaCount Respirator Fit Testing unit, which allows for quantitative fit testing on various types of respirators including disposable N95 masks.

Prior to testing, employees will receive training inclusive of proper respirator use, donning, seal check, storage, and maintenance. Once the fit test has been performed, KOH will issue a fit-test record for future verification.
